Taping Products
There are a large variety of products available on the market, with products being developed for a range of uses. These products can be expensive so it is important to ensure that you select the equipment that is most appropriate for its use. The most common products used with taping and strapping are:
  • Zinc Oxide Tape
  • Elastic Adhesive Bandage (EAB)
  • Underwrap
  • Pads
  • Adhesive Spray
  • Scissors
  • Non-Adhesive Bandage
  • Adhesive Remover

Contraindications to Taping
There are certain instances when the application of taping and strapping are not applicable. These are known as contra-indications.
Some of the key contra-indications to taping and strapping are:
  • Acute injuries (where there is a risk of swelling)
  • A swollen, irritable or painful joint
  • Abnormal skin sensations, allergies or hypersensitive skin
  • Open wounds
Considerations must also be made regarding:
  • Taping on or over pressure/friction points
  • Taping as a substitute/aid for rehabilitation purposes
  • Not restricting circulation
